As Hurricane Matthew approaches landfall at Cape Canaveral, hurricane force winds are set to run through the coasts of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Port closures are taking place for all the major Florida ports, Charleston and Savannah.
The ports across the three states accounted for 18.3% of U.S. container import shipments according to and 49.8% of east coast and Gulf of Mexico imports in September according to Panjiva data. The largest users of the ports include Daimler (for its Mercedes-Benz factories), Chiquita and Hyundai, though the issue will be more timing of delivery than completion assuming there is no damage to port facilities.
