Embracing Digitization
Opening Keynote by His Excellency Dr. Pichet, Minister of Digital Economy and Society at the recent BIIA 2017  Biennial Conference in Bangkok, Thailand

In his riveting speech Dr. Pichet emphasized the importance of digitization in economic and social development. In order to realize the benefits of digitization we need to look far
ahead he said. One also needs to create some tangible benefits quickly otherwise citizens will become restless or disinterested. Tangible benefits would be income, not just e-learning.

To keep villagers employed in their villages they need access to the internet to engage in e-commerce. Without income they would be forced to migrate into metropolitan centers such as Bangkok, which would not be good for Bangkok nor the villages.  ”Speed is of essence: What took three months before has to be done in three weeks or even in three days. So I have become quite a slave driver these days,” he commented. If we don’t move fast we will become legacy like dinosaurs.

Cyber Security,Identity management, untangling of regulations and the creation of incentive for start-ups and innovators as well as private / public partnerships are high on the list of initiatives of his ministry.
