Apologies for the late sending of this update, which was due to the author being at the 2016 World Consumer Credit Reporting Conference in Toronto.
SUMMARY
The main activity of relevance to our industry in the last two weeks has been the Commissions work on the Capital Markets Union action plan and in particular the role of advisory support for SMEs in helping them gain access to finance. We expect activity on topics relevant to our industry to grow over the coming months with further work on Capital Markets Union, Retail Financial Services and of course the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
KEY AREAS OF ACTIVITY
- EUROPEAN COMMISSION WORKSHOP – ADVISORY SUPPORT FOR SME ACCESS TO FINANCE, HELD ON 12-13 SEPTEMBER 2016
As advised in previous updates the European Commission held a Workshop on Advisory Support for SME Access to Finance on the 12th and 13th of September as part of its Capital Markets Union Action Plan to improve SME access to finance. BIIA was represented at the Workshop by ACCIS.
It emerged from the discussions that there seems to be an opportunity for BIIA and ACCIS to re-engage with the European Commission on SME access to finance and Capital Markets Union. In particular Commission representative Alexis Marchand (DG FISMA) indicated after the Workshop that he would be interested to learn more about the solutions adopted by BIIA and ACCIS’ members for providing alternative investors with SME’s information.
Please find attached the minutes of the Workshop discussions.

This event is organized by Eurofinas, in conjunction with BNP Paribas Fortis, and will be held at the Grand Auditorium Marais in Brussels on Friday November 4 2016. ACCIS will be attending and will also represent the views of BIIA
