BIIA in ACTION: BIIA attended the 2008 Annual Conference of ACCIS (European Association of Consumer Credit Suppliers). The conference delegates discussed a number of important topics which concern consumer credit experts and suppliers. The key topics discussed can be summarized as follows:
- European Commission desire to create a well-functioning internal market for consumer credit, which has implications on consumer protection (privacy) and access to credit databases across borders. This requires a great degree of harmonization of country laws and regulations
- Data security is a critical issue and is closely linked to consumer level of confidence concerning identity theft
- Alternative Data Sources are seen to become highly relevant in achieving a greater degree of risk predictions: Studies funded by CDIA and the industry show that alternative data sources can be predictive of ability and willingness to pay (Brookings/PERC). Payment data sources include rent payments, utility payments, telecom (cellular) payments
