BIIA would like to thank its fellow industry association, ACCIS (the Association of Consumer Credit Information Suppliers), for allowing us to re-use information that they have published on the regulatory developments within Europe.

SUMMARY

March has seen a number of developments on data privacy, with the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) presenting its overview of the implementation of GDPR and the announcement by the European Commission of its ‘stock taking’ exercise on the application of the regulation. During the month we have also seen the implementation of the GDPR by the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

Outside Europe, the GDPR continues to have a ‘ripple impact’. For example, last month we saw Thailand introduce for the first time a Personal Data Protection Act.  We are also expecting the introduction of data privacy regulation in India in a few months’ time, which mirrors the principles within GDPR.

There is no doubt that data privacy is becoming a global phenomenon!
