Welcome to the nineteenth monthly newsletter designed to keep BIIA members informed of the significant developments on the policy dossiers being worked on in Europe.  For our readers outside Europe we would like to emphasize that whatever happens on the regulatory front in the EU, it will sooner or later have relevance in other markets.

SUMMARY

The beginning of the New Year has seen a lot of activity on many different topics relevant to our industry.

In Brussels and London we have seen work on the risks and vulnerabilities of the EU Banking sector and on non-performing loans (NPLs).  We have also seen the Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) come into effect which has already started to have a major impact on accessing payment data held by banks and the fees that banks can charge for payment transactions.

And finally we are starting to understand from the Commission its approach to FinTech, which has been established following the public consultation on the subject.  It will be interesting to see how effective its action plan will be with such a fast moving sector.

Looks like it’s going to be another busy year in terms of policy developments effecting the information industry.
