Welcome to the thirteenth monthly newsletter designed to keep BIIA members informed of the significant developments on the policy dossiers being worked on in Europe.
In April and in the first week of May 2017, despite the Easter break and several public holidays, the EU institutions, industry associations and think tanks have been continuing their work on two important topics relevant for BIIA – Data Protection and Financial Technology (FinTech).
Noteworthy are the Annual Report 2016 issued by the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), outlining the objective of this European body’s activities for 2017, which will be focussed on “digital ethics” and the impact of technology on privacy, as well the report by the European Parliament on FinTech.
As part of its engagement with the policy makers on the topic of Data Protection, BIIA in conjunction with ACCIS met with the EDPS and discussed the implementation of the new EU General Data Protection Regulation.
Looking forward to this month (May) a number of European industry associations and think tanks have prepared interesting events dedicated to data protection and FinTech. The European Commission will also host a conference dedicated to the Capital Markets Union, another priority policy topic for BIIA.
