Dear Members,

Welcome to the sixteenth monthly newsletter designed to keep BIIA members informed of the significant developments on the policy dossiers being worked on in Europe.

SUMMARY
Following the summer recess in August, EU Institutions have restarted their legislative and policy-making activities and have a busy agenda scheduled for the months of September – December 2017, including a number of policy areas relevant for BIIA. In particular, the EU is accelerating its work on the implementation of the new EU data protection regulation, (GDPR) and will organise a workshop on this topic (the so-called FabLab) in October 2017.
Another relevant development in the field of data protection was the publication of the EU legislative proposal on the free flows of non-personal data. The main developments on these topics, relevant for BIIA are discussed in this issue of the Newsletter.
We look forward to seeing our readers of this newsletter at the 2017 Biennial Conference in Bangkok. If you haven’t already registered to attend you can view the program and register here.
