Hackers launched an attack on AnnualCreditReport.com and stole data of several prominent public figures.  The victims are First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Attorney General Eric Holder, FBI Director Robert Mueller and potentially more public figures.

According to a TransUnion statement the hackers used considerable amounts of information about the victims, including Social Security numbers and other sensitive data , which enabled them to successfully impersonate the victims over the Internet in order to illegally and fraudulently access their credit reports.

AnnualCreditReport.com is a centralized service for consumers to request free annual credit reports. It was created by the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies  – EquifaxExperian and TransUnion.
