The European Commission published on February 18th a Green Paper on Building a Capital Markets Union.
The Green Paper launches a consultation on the measures to be taken by the EU measures in order to create a single market for capital financing, with the focus on diversifying sources of funding, especially for SMEs, and removing obstacles for cross-border financing. This initiative, aimed at building an integrated EU Capital Markets Union, is among the top political priorities of the new European Commission and is part of the EU’s strategy to boost growth and jobs in Europe. The Consultation will run until 13 May 2015.
This initiative is highly relevant for the business information industry, because the EU Commission recognizes that some of the obstacles preventing access to finance for SMEs are caused by information asymmetries. Therefore the commission is seeking remedies to improve the availability of credit information. BIIA invites members to participate in formulating a response to the EU Commission.
