The word from the Panjiva research team: February imports to the U.S. were down in February from January. This February showed levels of imports -6% below imports in February 2012. The numbers of these shipments coming into the U.S. changed -16% from January 2014 to February 2014. Previous years’ January to February changes: -2% in 2013, -20% in 2012, -15% in 2011, -4% in 2010, -19% in 2009, and -1% in 2008.

Panjiva February-2014-495x284The number of global manufacturers shipping to the U.S. decreased in February, -7% from January to February. January to February changes in previous years: +1% in 2013, -12% in 2012, -8% in 2011, -3% in 2010, -10% in 2009, and +1% in 2008.

This is a stark downturn; we cannot say with certainty what is driving it, whether it’s political instability or a fluke. But we will come back with more information next month.
