Gartner announced it is acquiring AMR Research for approximately $64 million in cash, an approximate 1.6 times revenue.  AMR has been best known for its supply chain research and has been in the Outsell IT Research top 10 at an approximate $40 million in 2009 revenue.

Outsell sees this acquisition as a continued consolidation play on Gartner’s account, rolling up one of the few larger companies into its own brand reinforcing Gartner’s dominance in the market.  The downside for buyers is there is now, again, one less good alternative to Gartner.
