GBG Continues to Lead and Expand Identity Data Set for Australian Market by Participating as a Data Service Broker for soft launch of Australian Death Check

GBG (AIM:GBG), the global technology specialist in fraud & compliance management, identity verification and location data intelligence, has announced it will be participating as a Data Service Broker (DSB) for the soft launch of the Australian Death Check (ADC). Already a global leader in identity verification and authentication, this further boosts the extensive data set GBG can offer in Australia, as businesses strive to better cleanse and verify personal data, as well as take steps to stem the rise of identity fraud.

The Australian Death Check (ADC) is a new data cleansing service that will match customer data daily with over 2.5 million, up to date, government registry death records. Currently in trial phase, led by Queensland’s Registry of Birth, Deaths and Marriages, the service is a joint initiative from the state and territory registries and will provide the only official source of death data in Australia. As part of the soft launch, GBG will help to test and validate the service with selected customers as part of its greenID solution, prior to the ADC’s expected launch to market later in 2020.

In 2017, 15% of Australians (3.8 million) were aged 65 and over and this proportion is projected to grow steadily over the coming decades. In the face of this ageing population, businesses will need to remain proactive in ensuring customer data remains accurate. Following the Banking Royal Commission, the government has also stepped up regulation for key industries, in particular financial services and gaming, to eliminate instances of ‘fees for no service’, when someone is deceased. Furthermore, it is also critical to proactively cleanse data to minimise the risk of identity theft and fraud of deceased persons.

GBG has strong global credentials in identity verification with the ability to verify identities of 4.4 billion people across 72 countries. GBG is an approved Gateway Service Provider (GSP) for the Australian Government’s Document Verification Service (DVS), which helps protect governments, businesses and Australians from identity crime. This reputation was further enhanced in 2018, when GBG acquired VIX Verify, an Australian-based identity verification and location intelligence specialist, whose flagship product, greenID is the market leading identity verification service. This technology and data further complemented and strengthened GBG’s existing fraud offerings and capabilities and extended its reach further across APAC.
