Google hopes to launch “Google Finance” in September 2006 in direct competition with Yahoo Finance.  Initially this service will cover a broad range of information about US listed stocks, mutual funds, public and private companies.  In addition it will offer a range of company news and information in order to deliver more relevant, unbiased results in a clean, uncluttered user interface (Source: Google Website). Google Finance will be auto-generated without the involvement of human editors.  Instead of simply crawling the Web for all its contents, Google has licensed some of the content from a number of sources such as Hoover’s for private company data; Morningstar for Mutual Funds and Reuters for public company data.  Google is currently beta testing Google Finance: http://finance.google.com
