Well entrenched local competition, who are tightly linked to local public information sources usually hold the competitive high ground and if the locals are not for sale Anglo-Saxon companies usually have a hard time competing.   Obviously being tired of such futile uphill battles, LexisNexis finally gave in and chose to exit the German market.

Wolters Kluwer Germany Holding GmbH (WLSN: News ) said it would acquire LexisNexis Deutschland GmbH. Through this acquisition, the online legal services part of the portfolio of Wolters Kluwer Germany would be expanded by the range of services and the technological expertise of the online databases of LexisNexis Deutschland.  Ulrich Hermann, Regional Managing Director for Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory Central Europe, and CEO Wolters Kluwer Germany stated, “Our strategy is focused on providing our customers with workflow solutions from our software business, content from our publishing business, and online research through our web services, as an integrated offering from a single source.”   The transaction is expected to close around the end of the year.
