Outsell Inc. has just released its 2011 preliminary market size and share report for the information industry.  Preliminary estimates show that the Information Industry grew 2.9% in 2011 to $462 billion, compared with 0.6% growth in 2010. The strongest growth was experienced in the Search, Aggregation & Syndication (SAS), Market & IT Research (MITR), and Company Information segments of the market. In keeping with the reduction in print, News Providers & Publishers experienced the most downturn, with a 7.0% decline in 2011.

Company information grew 7% to US$4.4bn.  Yellow Pages and Directories declined by 4.5% to 27,619 bn.  The Credit & Financial Information market segment grew an estimated 4.0% to US$44.2bn.

In terms of growth the winner was the Search, Aggregation & Syndication Segment which grew 17% to US$63.4bn.  The loser was the News Providers & Publishing Segment with a negative growth of 7% and revenues of US$87.3bn
