panjiva_logo_250The word from the Panjiva research team: January imports to the U.S. were up in January from December.  This January also had levels of imports 9% above imports in January 2012.  The numbers of these shipments coming into the U.S. changed +7% from December 2013 to January 2014. Previous years’ December to January changes: -1% in 2013, +11.5% in 2012, +17% in 2011, -3% in 2010, -2% in 2009, and -3% in 2008.

The number of global manufacturers shipping to the U.S. increased in January, +1% from December to January. December to January changes in previous years: -5% in 2013, +3% in 2012, +6% in 2011, -5% in 2010, -6% in 2009, and -4% in 2008.

Panjiva Jan 2014 ImportsThis is a strong start to the new year. Our annual State of Trade survey indicated that buyers are feeling optimistic. In general, January is continuing the trend of strong exports that we’ve seen over the last 6 months. We’re hopeful that this is an indicator of strong import and economic trends in 2014.
