BIIA would like to thank its fellow industry association, ACCIS (the Association of Consumer Credit Information Suppliers), for allowing us to re-use certain information that they have published on regulatory developments within Europe.

SUMMARY

With the continued severity of the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic this month’s newsletter continues to have a very strong focus on the measures being undertaken to support individuals, businesses and the financial system during the crisis as well as to support economic growth when we eventually start to exit from the crisis.

This month we report on the work being undertaken by the International Committee on Credit Reporting (ICCR) on making regulators and policy makers aware of the importance of credit reporting systems and the need to protect their integrity.

As mentioned last month the Committee has developed guidance on the treatment of credit data in credit reporting systems in response to the pandemic and BIIA as a member of the Committee has played an important role in this work. The Committee has also held two webinars on the guidance with your editor chairing the second one which looked at the practical considerations and challenges in the treatment of credit data during a crisis.

As also mentioned in the last newsletter BIIA has undertaken a survey to gain an understanding of how regulators and policy makers are reacting to the massive disruptions the pandemic is having on credit granting and credit reporting. We would like to thank those readers who responded to the survey. The information that has been provided is currently being analyzed and we will very shortly be publishing a summary of the main findings on the BIIA website. We will also provide a summary in next month’s newsletter

Please keep safe and well in these troubled times.

Best Regards
Neil Munroe
