BIIA works with regulatory bodies and it‘s members via its community to advocate for policies that encourage innovation and sustainable growth of the information and credit bureau ecosystems.

Globally

  • Founding member of the International Committee on Credit Reporting (ICCR) – the standard setting body for the credit reporting and business information industry supported by the World Bank Group.
  • Neil Munroe Managing Director, BIIA is Deputy Chair of the Committee (since 2019).
  • BIIA took an active role in creation of the standards – ‘Principles of Credit Reporting’ released in 2011 and has participated in the development of all of the subsequent policy and research documents that have been issued by the Committee.
  • BIIA creates member working groups to respond to ICCR policy and research activity.

Regionally

  • BIIA acts as the secretariat of the ICCR Asia Pacific Regional Consultative Group established to facilitate a dialogue and exchange of information between the industry and regulatory bodies in the region.
  • BIIA works with its members in helping share best practices in other countries with their local governments and regulators.

Indonesia

  • Requirement:
    Changes proposed that could impact the sharing of data between the public and private sector including the impact of new privacy regulation.
  • BIIA Consulting:
    • BIIA attended and spoke at a conference and workshops organized by the regulators and the industry to share best practices from other countries.
    • BIIA assisted in the creation of an association of the credit bureaus in the country to support the ongoing discussion with regulators.

Vietnam

  • Requirement:
    Support the dialogue between the industry, lenders and government on the use of alternative data and analytics in credit risk management with the backdrop of new privacy regulation.
  • BIIA Consulting:
    • BIIA co-chaired a roundtable involving all parties.
    • BIIA spoke at an event chaired by the IFC/World Bank.
    • BIIA will working with the IFC and local members on further events.

Dubai

  • Requirement:
    Support the dialogue between the government, lenders and the industry on how to improve access to finance for SMEs in the UAE – a key priority.
  • BIIA Consulting:
    • BIIA chaired a roundtable with all interested parties to discuss the key role that governments in the region can play in supporting access to finance including improving access to key data sources.
