British Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific Martin Kent recently led a delegation of nine British fintech companies to Vietnam, seeking opportunities for collaboration in digital finance, digital assets, cybersecurity, and financial center development.
This activity is part of a visit aimed at promoting UK-Vietnam cooperation in the fields of financial services, fintech, and investment.
British businesses are operating in areas such as open banking, digital identity, payments, digital assets, cybersecurity, and core banking technology.
In Hanoi , the UK-Vietnam Summit included over 100 representatives from government agencies, the banking sector, and the technology industry. British businesses showcased their strengths in open banking, digital assets, artificial intelligence (AI), and financial management, and discussed opportunities to support Vietnam in developing internationally connected financial centers.
Mr. Martin Kent also held meetings with representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the Vietnam Banking Association, the Vietnam International Finance Centre in Ho Chi Minh City (VIFC-HCM), and the State Securities Commission.
The discussions focused on developing an international financial center, improving the fintech legal framework, promoting digital finance, and expanding cooperation in digital assets, cybersecurity, and financial infrastructure.
According to Martin Kent, Vietnam is becoming an increasingly important partner for the UK and one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic digital economies. “Bilateral trade has now reached £10 billion (approximately US$13.5 billion) and we look forward to further boosting this growth,” Kent said.
The UK Trade Commissioner stated that as Vietnam realizes its ambition to build international financial centers, the UK is committed to sharing experience and expertise, and strengthening cooperation between the governments, regulatory bodies, and business communities of the two countries.
The visit takes place against the backdrop of Vietnam promoting the development of an international financial center and refining policies on digital finance, fintech, and digital assets, opening up more opportunities for cooperation between businesses of the two countries.
