Framework verifies AI agent identity and permissions while delivering secure digital commerce through edge-based security and real-time performance.
Cybersecurity and cloud computing company Akamai Technologies has introduced a unified Agentic Security Framework for its Bot & Agent Control solution, designed to strengthen identity verification, observability, trust and edge security as AI agents increasingly act on behalf of users across the internet.
According to Akamai, the unified Agentic Security Framework will be delivered through an ecosystem of technology partners. The company is working with frameworks such as Visa’s Trusted Agent Protocol to establish clear standards governing how AI agents operate in payment environments, including authorization, permission scope and transaction-level trust.
Akamai is also collaborating with Skyfire and Experian to strengthen trusted AI agent identity verification through a Know Your Agent (KYA) framework. KYA provides a standardized mechanism that enables AI agents to declare their identity, origin and intent while linking them to both the platform on which they operate and the user they represent. The framework verifies that an AI agent is acting on behalf of an authorized individual.
To secure the delegation, or handoff, of authority between users and AI agents, Akamai said it is partnering with identity providers including Auth0 and Ping Identity. The approach allows enterprises to apply existing security policies—such as behavioral analytics and multi-factor authentication (MFA)—to AI agents acting on behalf of customers.
Akamai said its Agentic Security Framework enables enterprises to dynamically assess the trustworthiness and intent behind every interaction involving browsers, bots and AI agents. The security and performance requirements of AI-driven interactions are supported by the company’s distributed edge network. By using high-performance computing to evaluate the risk and intent of agentic requests in real time and processing them at the edge, enterprises can maintain security and control without compromising customer experience or application performance.
The company also said its web security analytics tools provide enterprises with a unified view of web traffic, allowing them to distinguish between human users, beneficial AI agents and malicious bots.
According to Akamai, enterprises can also analyze large-scale log data to monitor how AI agents interact with their websites over time, enabling them to refine access control policies and optimize digital commerce strategies based on observed agent behavior.
