It was a great pleasure for BIIA to contribute a panel discussion on the topics of  “Public Data, ESG & Credit Risk – Global”, at the 5th FECMA Pan-European Credit Congress “Credit Management in Challenging Times” on June 14-15 at the Divani Caravel Hotel in Athens.

The event was organized by the Federation of European Credit Management Associations (FECMA), the Hellenic Association of Risk Managers H.A.RI.MA. and powered by CLEON Conferences & Communications.

Ingrid Riehl, BIIA board member, Executive Committee member and Head of Membership Services / Administration was responsible for organizing and moderating the panel.

In the first part of the discussion about the availability and quality of public data throughout the world, our members Gertjan Kaart, CEO BE/NL/DE, Creditsafe , Antoun Massaad, CEO & Co-Founder, Cedar Rose International Services Ltd. , George Oikonomou, Senior Manager Analytics, ICAP CRIF and Kaushal Sampat, Founder, Rubix Data Sciences Pvt. Ltd, provided a great insight into the conditions in their regions and to how they mitigate the lack of completeness and quality of public data to provide, despite the situations, golden trusted reports to their customers for their credit decisions.

In the second part of the discussion about ESG & Credit Risk our member Giorgio Baldassarri Höger von Högersthal, Head of the Analytical Innovation & Development Group, S&P Global Market Intelligence – Credit & Risk Solutions, explained how the climate risk can be evaluated with the use of analytical tools.  Last, but not least, Giorogio Baldasaarri and George Oikonomou provided insight about the different ESG Ratings/Scores of different providers, about the lacks on regulations and the role of Credit Ratings in this dynamic environment.  Kaushal Sampat added to this that ESG rating activities in India are likely to become a regulated business activity soon.

Many thanks to our members, esteemed professionals, for making this discussion incredibly insightful, and dynamic  for the valued customers of our industry, the Credit Management Community.

We also very much thank the Federation of European Credit Management Associations (FECMA), Hellenic Association of Risk Managers H.A.RI.MA. and CLEON Conferences & Communications for their invitation.
