Background about the presidential visit:  The President of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson began a three-day official visit to Georgia with a ceremony at the Orbeliani presidential palace in central Tbilisi. Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili received the president with a guard of honor and a trumpet band played the national anthems. Then we headed into the presidential palace, where the presidents met with delegations and discussed relations between the nations and the media. Recording from the Presidents’ Press Conference can be seen here and the proclamation of the President of Georgia read here.

The Presidential delegation consists of Guðlaugur Þór Þórsson, Minister of the Environment, Energy and Climate, and Nótt Thorberg, Director of Greenvang, as well as officials and representatives from the President’s Office. The President will also be accompanied by a number of representatives from the business community who intend to explore possibilities for increased cooperation in the development of renewable energy, e.g. in the field of direct utilisation of geothermal energy, hydropower plants and investments in climate solutions. Later in the day, the president, ministers and delegations visited two companies in Tbilisi that have Icelandic partners and have business ties to Iceland.
