The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) and the Global Financial Technology Network (GFTN) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting financial technology innovation and strengthening Cambodia’s fintech ecosystem, marking a new step in the Kingdom’s digital finance development.
The agreement was signed by Sopnendu Mohanty, Co-Founder and Chief Executive of GFTN, and an NBC representative, and witnessed by Chea Serey, Governor of NBC, and Rath Sovannorak, Deputy Governor of NBC, in Phnom Penh.
The signing ceremony brought together representatives of the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC), the Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA), the Cambodian Association of Finance and Technology, international card schemes, as well as banking and financial institutions across the Kingdom.
According to an NBC press release, the agreement established a specific framework for cooperation between NBC and GFTN to support the development of Cambodia’s financial sector and strengthen its fintech ecosystem.
By fostering a more diverse and inclusive environment, the partnership aimed to enhance the country’s investment climate, boost its economic potential and support its growing digital economy and society, the statement added.
In a post on her official Facebook account, the NBC Governor welcomed the signing of the MoU and highlighted the importance of closer cooperation in advancing digital financial services.
“This collaboration will strengthen cooperation between NBC and GFTN on fintech innovation, reinforcing our shared commitment to building a more inclusive and resilient digital finance ecosystem in Cambodia and across the region,” she wrote.
