Last week the European Parliament took the next steps in discussing the Data Protection framework proposal in a joint meeting with MPs from national parliaments.

The purpose of the Joint Parliamentary meeting was to explore some of the details of the legislation and to engage in an exchange of views and constructive dialogue which should provide a strong steer to the draft Parliamentary report which the responsible MEP Jan Philipp Albrecht is expected to present in December.

The Parliamentary Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) is expected to have an orientation vote in the first quarter of 2013 with the view to agree on the future legislation by the end of 2013.  The coming months will therefore be critical in shaping the future framework and raising concerns with EU decision makers.
