FiinGroup is delighted to present our latest insight article “Vietnam Waste Management: Toward Sustainable Development”. In which, we would like to provide you the key highlights of this insight article for your reference:

  1. Solid waste management in Vietnam recorded an active participation of the private sector, yet unfulfilled potential persists due to equipment and technology gaps. Vietnam continues to underutilize its potential resources, with approx. 17 mn tons of solid waste remaining untapped for the next cycle (i.e. composting, recycling, WtE, etc.).
  2. Municipal solid waste (MSW) dominates the waste generation in Vietnam with a contribution of 49.5% of total solid waste generation in the country in 2022. MSW is forecasted to continue its solid growth of 13% until 2025, driving by rapid urbanization in Vietnam.
  3. In 2022, Vietnam generated 26.1 mn tons of MSW, ranked 3rd place among other countries in the SEA region. However, only 15% of solid waste is recycled and reused, indicating huge potential for new investors to tap into the market.
  4. With solid waste generation on the rise, WtE emerges as a potential waste management solution in the coming period drawing private and foreign investment for sustainable MSW management.
